Getting Started

Post by ImaNewbieScripter »

Hey Everyone,

I was out playing some shard for the past, I would say 4 years, and they just up and leave and crash and burn or just plain suck. Im here to learn the ropes so I can create the Ultimate Shard. Im totally new to this, So, If someone could help me out, and give me some basics, that would be amazing, another thing is that Im looking for a set of Zulu style scripts. I was wondering if someone could also give me a hand with tat, If you have some laying around, or Know where I can get my hands on them, That would be amazing!

Thank You To All Who Reply!

Check the custom script releases forum for Zulu scripts.

Best thing is read all docs that come with the POL Distro download and POL core download and then when something don't work, ask here on the forums. As it stands there is only one complete set of Distro scripts and that is the POL 95 set. POL 97 Distro is being developed in anticipation of POL 97 core release.

BTW perhaps a few definitions:
core refers to the emulator 'engine' that runs the scripts.
Distro refers to the scripts that make POL emulate the Ultima Online server.

I always recommend that new scripters study the smaller text commands at first to get familiar with scripts. They can be found (in the POL 95 Distro) in the \pol\scripts\textcmd folder. They are sorted there into the various command level folders.

Be sure to bookmark this location. That's the POL documentation page.

Since you didn't mention whether you have any previous programming experience I'll assume you do not. So let me encourage you that you CAN learn to script without any prior experience.

Remember that there is no stupid question. Some folks may think there is but there ain't.

Oh and welcome to the world of scripting. You've chosen the best emulator around.
