On the server side, no, UOConvert doesn't know how to convert KR files.

Are you using an unencrypted client? Make sure you're using a client that was generated through UORice or have a program that will take the encryption out automatically.

You should start to run UOConvert, I assume you are using distro097 so run RealmGen.bat and choose "d" to convert all config files, because the message you get tells that you dont have multis.cfg in you Pol/Config directory, and with cores 096 + UOConvert creates that for you from your multi.mul and multi.idx files.

Thanks. I got that part working, but when I go to log in as admin, it says there is a problem communicating with the origin. Any suggestions?

I'm referring here to OP.

When asked to: Download the latest UO client here:

Is it just the same to actually own the game and install it from a CD? Like I have?

My internet connection is shabby, plus I don't even know which 2GB file I'm supposed to be downloading because the filenames have changed since OP (here's the new links). There are three files which could be the one I'm looking for on that link, none of which I'm sure I need, and if all I have to do is install from my UO: Age of Shadows CD, then I'd prefer to do that.

Please let me know, guys. Trying my best to comprehend all of this. Thx.

Yes if you own an Age of Shadows CD, you can just install that and patch from there. All installs of UO get upgraded to the latest incarnation regardless of how old it was. When fully patched, anything you install will end up identical, just the newer installs obviously cut down on how many patches the auto patcher has to download. The only thing that is different is UO Kingdom Reborn (aka UOKR). UOKR is an entirely rewritten "3D" (note the quotes :cheesy: ) UO install. Most of us still shy away from UOKR for now since its not completely supported yet (but they're working on it) and many tools out there don't work with it.

In conclusion, install your AOS CD and patch it. It'll be much less of a problem.

ok.. there HAS to be somethign i'm missing. 2 or so links from the original post don't work for me. i ran the rice and deleted it it worked fine. the other things are installed and now i'm getting a headache. my problem doesn't come in until i'm trying to rename folders that aren't there. i'm not exactly sure i can just skip that step or if it's somethign as simple as me just going ahead to make a new folder and move the files into it so it reads C:/My UO Shard/files and apps to C:/My UO Shard/name of shard/files and apps. i have the programs: cedserver_win32 (not installed), centreED_32 (not installed, Distro 97 (downloaded and installed all 3 versions from the download page. largest file and first listed on the page last) distro097_basic, pol_core_097.3_windows and installed it. the uo_rice already installed, used, and deleted. because the links don't work and from what i've gathered from looking over some other things, some stuff has been updated. is there somethign i'm just really not getting? yes. this is a completely NOOB topic for me and i'm eager to learn now to do this.. i used pandora and helped to design a few other shards for friends, but i'd like to get my own underway and POL was highly recomended. and yes if my old friends were still contactable for this, i'd ask them first and save you all and me the trouble.

Some links don't work because the post is over 2 years old and was never updated. It's probably gotten easier too.

The best thing to do if you want to get started is download this link
http://downloads.polserver.com/download ... tro097full

Extract it to the folder where you want your shard like C:\POL. I will use C:\POL in my examples.

Now run C:\POL\Distro\starthere.bat.

When its open it gives you a list of commands. First do command a. In that menu, command o is a command to automatically copy the files it needs from UO. Do that command and type in the full path to where UO is installed. Let it copy. Once done, press any key to get back to the menu.

Then do command d to build your configuration files. You may get a lot of errors like "Type xx not found in uoconvert.cfg. Assuming house type" but don't worry, these aren't critical unless you have a lot of custom content. Once again when done, press any key to get back to the menu.

After that, do command j. This does take a long time. Depending on your computer, it could take anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour. Once completed, press any key to continue. Then do command x to go back to the main menu.

From the main menu, do the Ecompiler menu, command b. Within the ecompiler menu, do command c to compile all of the scripts. This may take a few minutes but nowhere near as long as the last step. Once done, press any key to continue. Press command x to go back to the main menu and you're ready. You can either do command d from there to start pol.exe or just run pol.exe on your own.

Now to log in, in the folder where you have UO installed, you have a file login.cfg open it with a text editor. Change that login.cfg to read Loginserver=put.your.ip.here,5003

Then save and close that. Open up UO with the client UO Rice made and log in with
admin
admin

and you're done.

If POL automatically closes or any other problems arise, come back here and we'll walk you through what could have gone wrong and how to fix it.

Just a few quick questions:

Do I patch UO to latest version?
The UO Rice I use, its the link on the first page?
Do I need any other downloads from the first page, aside from UO Rice? Distro_097Full-Windows already contains everything?

Thanks for the support! :)

Actually I already got it all working! Downloaded a new version of UO Rice.

run uoconvert to get the realm files created.

Distro also the RealmGen.bat, run that and you get rid of that error.

You might need to go to the "Tools" menu for the folder by pressing <alt> T, and choose "Folder Options" and select the "View" tab. Then look down the list of check boxes until you see the option "Hide extensions of known file types" and uncheck that. Anyone using Windows should do this as a matter of security anyway. While you are there check the "Always show Menus" checkbox too so that you will see the menus next time.

Now you should be able to make any changes to the file extensions of files. Be advised however that if you are using anything pre-Vista to exercise care when renaming files as it's easy to accidentally change the extension.
