Hello. I'm back. Well, somewhat...

Post by Yukiko » Fri Mar 10, 2017 12:22 am

I want to thank you for your prayers and kind thoughts.

As most of you know I had a stroke on January 1 2017. Happy New Year to me :)
It was a left brain infarc. Which is a loss of blood to part of my brain rather than a hemorrhage which would have possibly been worse. It left me paralysed on my right side and affected my speech a little.

I have regained some use of my right leg, enough to be able to walk with the aid of a "hemi-walker". A hemi-walker looks kind of like a folding step stool without the steps of course. You can think of it as having the same function as a cane but with much more stability due to it having four legs spaced about 1-1/2 to 2 feet apart.

My right arm is still mostly paralysed. I have a little movement in the arm and hand but nothing near functional. Unfortunately I am right handed so I am stuck learning to do everything left handed for now. I have gained a new appreciation and empathy for people who have lost an arm, especially on their "favoured" side. I never gave it much thought before but now my heart goes out to them.

It takes me longer to type naturally because I am doing it one handed and with my left hand. Some uppercase letters are really a b--ch to type. My fingers just are too short :P

Anyway, I just wanted to say "hello" and thanks. Also, I am thankful to God my stroke was as "mild" as it was because Ive seen members of my family whose strokes were far worse leaving them completely paralysed and unable to speak.

I still have a long path ahead, so your prayers are welcome and needed.

I'm right handed so I can just imagine the frustration using the left arm is for you. Apart from the anger of being with an arm not functional.
I wish you good luck, persist with recovery, I'm sure you'll get out of it!!!!

Thanks guialtran!

By the Grace of God I will recover Xeon.

Whatever He has in store for me I will press on. It's times like these that purify us. Sorry for waxing spiritual but I have to keep my eyes on Him because He is my strength. Not that I don't get discouraged at times. I am human after all, especially when I'm doing the everyday things that I took for granted when I had both arms and hands working. Imagine having to carry something from one room to another when you only have one hand and you need that hand to hold onto a walker. I cheat now to do that. I put things in a bag and hold the bag in the hand I use for the walker. Where there's a will, there's a way!

I want to say that my family has been a blessing. My sons have been so much help both financially and in helping me. My wife is such a blessing. I couldn't have asked for a better helpmate. She has her own physical problems but I would be lost without her.

One of the things I had forgotten about some stroke victims is that we tend to get emotional more easily than before a stroke, crying or laughing or just growing introspective more often. So please forgive me when that happens in my posts. Like this one :)

Thanks again to all of you who have been praying for me and sending good thoughts my way.
