you need to have a "britannia" realm even if you dont use it.

how so do you mean this? install britania and then put in my files? or shove all the .mul files for my custom shard into the MUL folder and install britania then? because i have tried both. OR do i install britania then put my .mul files into the MUL folder and UOconvert them?

The mul files are already there if you are creating britannia_alt. The program uoconvert.exe will create britannia from your map0 and associated statics files. The easiest way to do this is to copy the starthere.bat (or starthere.sh if you are Linux) and the batchFiles directory from the Distro to your POL directory and use that batch file (starthere) to run the utilities. Be sure to create the britannia map as well as any other maps you intend to use. You can do it by typing in the proper command on the command line if you are so inclined but I recommend the batch file.

I'm not absolutely certain that the missing britannia realm is what is causing the assertion failure but it could be.
