Okay, I've decided that im not a scripter and only good at a few patches and fixes. So anyone interested in scripting/fixing and helping with my shard it would be greatly appreciated here is a list of a few of the priorites I have.

1. Complete scripting and implementation of rituals for a fourth religion
2. Small fixes including textcmds on player and admin levels
3. Some of the Spells need debugging and corrections
4. We need someone with an open mind thats not afraid to make decisions in the spurr of the moment and test them for playability

Anyone that feels like scripting will have limited access to files only and I will handle the rebooting and compiling process, also you'll be allowed to play ^_^

I have an advice for you, and of course you'll follow it just if you want so.

You're giving up too fast.

You probably never programmed before, POL is badly documented, and you do not learn programming by trying things out as fast as you'd learn by reading some guide.

Those 3 things I just said you, can incrediblely "put you down".

The advice I have is very simple. Take your time, no hurry, I bet it's not a job and you need to get that done for next week.

Try to learn how to do dot commands and test stuff with them.

Read Racalac's eScript Reference, http://docs.polserver.com/pol097/escriptguide.html, and see what is going to happen doing stuff he's teaching there, you can use dot commands to test stuff out.

Once you've learned what he's teaching there, you can briefly look at the modules reference so you can have an idea of what is already done.

If you want to work with gumps, make sure you know what is being thaugh here, http://docs.polserver.com/pol097/gumps.html, in Lystramon's Gump Tutorial.

Nando_k told me about GumpStudio, which is a software that allows you to just draw gumps, you don't need to work with code directly.

It was mainly designed for runuo, but if you know what Lystramon's Gump Tutorial is teaching, you can just export gumps to sphere format and in matter of minutes (1 to 2) get them working for POL.

Knowing Gump "design" by code is still important because it'll make it possible to you to write dynamic gumps.

After all that, you'll start getting used to POL, you'll start to understand better and faster what the docs are trying to tell you, where to search in there, etc.

But giving up fast as you're doing, in the situation you are in, is stupid.

Another thing, you may have found a scripter for you arelady, but depending upon others is a crap, mainly when scripting (which is the most subject when building a shard) comes into place.

Learn It.

I would agree with Phao that you are giving up too quickly. I don't think he meant to say you are stupid but rather that if you quit too early you are not giving yourself the chance to learn something new and rewarding, although it can be frustrating along the way.

As he said you might not have any previous experience with programming. You may not understand the concepts of variables and objects and all that. For you it will be a little more challenging than for some of us but I assure you that you can learn eScript, even gumps. I know someone who, when he was 15 years old, learned to script and even created a gump enabled piano script and he had no previous experience with programming.
So don't lose heart!

You not only have the excellent POL documentation but you also have the support of the community to help with problems you may encounter. EScript is a pretty easy language to learn. It's far easier than C or some of the other languages "out there". Phao gave the same advice I give to all new scripters, start with very simple <dot> command scripts and make changes to them to experiment. Then create some simple <dot> commands of your own. After you do that learn how to attach a script to an object as a "use script" and just move on up. I know the tendency is to want to jump in and create an entire full featured world in a week but that's only been done once as far as I know.
