Region Spawner for multiple maps

Post by Yukiko »

It's been a while since I've asked for a package of this size and scope but has anyone created a region spawner that handles multiple maps.

Spawnpoints are fine as they use the point's location as a reference for creating the NPCs. So I was able to convert them fairly easily but region spawner works differently and to be honest I really don't feel like ripping apart 095 region spawner and updating it. Nor do I feel like debugging the 097 distro spawn system.

If so and you feel like sharing it with me drop me a PM.

I'm not familiar anymore with the 'regionspawner' you might be using, since mine has been customized to the hilt since back before we even upgrade to 095, but wouldn't it be as simple as just adding a realm parameter to the config entries for each region, and then adding appropriate code to specify the region in the spawn scripts themselves?

When I initially did this to upgrade our package to 096, it took maybe 10 minutes to upgrade just by searching in the two or three code files involved for functions that do anything related to realms, and making sure those functions were passed the correct realm, based on the newly added config value.

If you want, just post your scripts and I'll edit them here when I get a second. Sending mine would not be of any use, as it probably doesn't resemble anything from WoD at all, anymore.

You're probably correct about the actual engine but the region spawner in POL 095, which is the one I am referencing, has a gump setup section similar to what Austin did with the 097 version. I could just setup the cfg files manually in an editor though. Maybe I'll do that rather than trying to do anything with the gumps.

*frowns*

Yeah... I ain't messin' with no gumps

Complete side note here: What's it with people (not meaning you, necessarily - unless this is true of you, too! pffft) wanting to put in all these complex administrative interfaces into the UO client as gumps? Has no one heard of the AUX or WWW interfaces?

Hmm.... perhaps I smell another guide coming...

I'd vote for a good guide regarding Aux and www stuff relating to POL.

But yeah I don't have a problem just editing the cfg files directly. However, the way the new (POL 097) Distro stuff uses datafiles makes it hard to edit them. The data is packed. I thought when I read that things were going to be held in datafiles that they would look like the pcs.txt ot items.txt files rather than what they are in the \ds directory.

But getting back to the gump issue, I have no idea why so much stuff seems to be scripted with gump interfaces. If you want some "point 'n click" interface then write it in a Windows (or whetever the Linux GUI standard is) application. Not that I care much for that idea either.

Heck I go back to the days of DOS so I have no qualms about editing text files directly. I still use a Windows application that mimicks XTree called ZTree for a lot of my file management stuff. Point and click GUI can't do it all.

Yup... there is nothing - and I mean nothing - like the simplicity of opening up a text file, changing what needs changing, saving it, and being happy!

I agree. I would rather edit the text file myself and be done with it.
