096 startup error

Post by Devloper BCL »

hi,

i had latest version of pol95 and then replaced files with from the
pol-core-096-2005-12-08.. then i had run the uoconvert.exe.. after
this i got these files in the realm/britannia folder..

thats the files i have" d:\serveur\pol\096\realm\britannia "

03.01.2006 05:13 50.331.648 base.dat
03.01.2006 05:13 75.497.472 maptile.dat
03.01.2006 05:13 155 realm.cfg

03.01.2006 05:13 20.411.416 solidx2.dat

when i have started pol.exe i got this error:

Reading Configuration.
Loading Realm britannia.
Server Shutdown: loading POL map file
Execution aborted due to: BinaryFile::Open
('realm/britannia/statidx.dat, 0x8) failed.

but the statidx.dat isn't in that folder and it won't create after
converting over converting (did more than 10 times and nothing)..

and this is the uo convert.cfg:

It looks like you didn't run the statics step with uocovert:

uoconvert statics realm=britannia

That or something bad happened during that step. Could you open up a command window, do that step and then post what the output of the command is? It should have an error message there or some indication of failure if that is the problem. If the probelm is that that step was not done, well, that should fix that too ;)

You have to run uoconvert with the syntax Mithril posted above :wink:
So simply type this as DOS command or Linux command, depending on what system you have:
uoconvert statics realm=britannia

If your static files are containing errors, uoconvert will write that.

1 - Open a command prompt window (On Windows) or a console window (On Linux)
2 - Change your directory to the directory with pol.exe in it. (Ex., on windows, if pol.exe is in the folder c:\pol, you would enter this command to change your directory to there: cd c:\pol)
3 - Type in this command and hit enter: uoconvert statics realm=britannia
(On linux the above command may need to be entered as ./uoconvert statics realm=britannia, its been awhile since I've used linux...)

uoconvert should then launch and should start building the needed statics files. If it has problems with your statics, it will print them to the screen.

One other note: I just realized, in rereading your first post, that you previously were running 095 and have now put in the 096 core. Please realize that you are most likely going to have to make ALOT of script and config file changes for it to run. There are ALOT of things that have changed, been added, been removed fromm 095 to 096. Just so you know in case it hadn't been realized :)

I assume that the compile stopped with errors? Or did it actually compile anything?

It sounds like your scripts are not compiling.

After you issue the command to compile, watch its output and it will print to the screen any errors that occur during compile.

I have no idea at this point, you need to compile the scripts and see where that fails. See what error messages ecompile comes up with.

Did you read the core-changes?

When you change from 95 to 96 you have to do a lot of changes in all scripts, config files ...

e.g. just some changes you have to do:

Code: Select all

	CreateItemAtLocation( x, y, z, objtype, amount := 1, realm := _DEFAULT_REALM );
	CreateMultiAtLocation( x, y, z, objtype, flags := 0, realm := _DEFAULT_REALM );
	CreateNpcFromTemplate( template, x, y, z, override_properties := 0, realm := _DEFAULT_REALM);
	FindPath( x1, y1, z1, x2, y2, z2, realm := _DEFAULT_REALM, mobilesblock := 0, searchskirt := 5 );
	GetHarvestDifficulty( resource, x, y, tiletype, realm := _DEFAULT_REALM );
	GetMapInfo( x, y, realm := _DEFAULT_REALM );
	GetRegionString( resource, x, y, propertyname, realm := _DEFAULT_REALM );
	GetStandingHeight( x, y, startz, realm := _DEFAULT_REALM );
	GetWorldHeight( x, y, realm := _DEFAULT_REALM );
	HarvestResource( resource, x, y, b, n, realm := _DEFAULT_REALM ); // returns b*a where 0 <= a <= n
	ListGhostsNearLocation( x, y, z, range, realm := _DEFAULT_REALM );
	ListItemsAtLocation( x, y, z, realm := _DEFAULT_REALM );
	ListItemsNearLocation( x, y, z, range, realm := _DEFAULT_REALM );
	ListItemsNearLocationOfType( x,y,z, range, objtype, realm := _DEFAULT_REALM );
	ListItemsNearLocationWithFlag( x,y,z, range, flags, realm := _DEFAULT_REALM );
	ListMobilesNearLocation( x, y, z, range, realm := _DEFAULT_REALM );
	ListMobilesNearLocationEx( x,y,z, range, flags, realm := _DEFAULT_REALM );
	ListObjectsInBox( x1,y1,z1, x2,y2,z2, realm := _DEFAULT_REALM );
	ListMultisInBox( x1,y1,z1, x2,y2,z2, realm := _DEFAULT_REALM );
	PlayMovingEffectXYZ( srcx, srcy, srcz, dstx, dsty, dstz, effect, speed, loop := 0, explode := 0, realm := _DEFAULT_REALM );
	PlayStationaryEffect( x, y, z, effect, speed, loop := 0, explode := 0, realm := _DEFAULT_REALM );

All these listed commands need that realm param. Did you make these changes already?

You should work with POL 095 a lot more of you dont know how to solve many of these errors. These are the same types of things you might encounter in 095 but 096 is an extremely rough conversion to make. It took me almost a month just to update my scripts to 096 and now almost 2 months later, I'm still fixing a lot of things that act differently due to the new core.

My advice, dont use 096 right now until they're completely done with it and have a distro. Especially if you're even somewhat new to POL. It takes a lot of time and experience to keep a steady 096 shard going.

You need to check every script for these commands.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to be rude, but I think CWO is right.
It is a test core. Even if you are experienced it takes you a lot of time to convert a complete pol 95 scripting to pol 96. I need about 80-100 hours to do that and i consider myself as relatively experienced. If you perhaps don't know what these commands or config files really do, you should wait for the final Pol Release and for the Distro on that. Otherwise you will still get problems. The only way to get around this is to read the core-changes carefully. And even then you get problems to solve if you perhaps switch to Mondain's Legacy cause OSI also changed some things on clients.

I think you don't understood, what we all wrote.
Therefore i gave a simple example:

In one of your Pol 95 Scripts it is:

Code: Select all

  plateitems := ListItemsAtLocation( character.x, character.y, character.z );
That won't work on Pol 96. You have to change that to e.g.:

Code: Select all

plateitems := ListItemsAtLocation( character.x, character.y, character.z,character.realm );
And that's only 1 command to change. You need to change every script with ListItemsAtLocation Commands that way. And all other scripts containing changed commands that way. I don't know how to explain that more easier. Perhaps others do :wink:

look for core-changes.txt in the POL path.

look for the line

-- POL095 --

In the 1-18-2006 core, I think its on line 1208.

If you have scripts from 095, read from that line all the way up to the top and those are the changes you need to make to your scripts. If you dont know exactly how to change them or what paths scripts are in, its going to be overly frustrating for you to even use 096. POL096 is really not the greatest learning tool especially when its not even complete and even worse, if you're working with 095 scripts. (You must change at least one thing if not 10 or more in almost every script)

The best way to learn is to use POL095. It has a nice set of scripts to start with and full documentation here of everything you need to know to start scripting.

Its great that you want to learn how to script POL and many of us would be happy to help you but we're telling you the honest truth that you shouldnt learn POL by converting it to 096. You should understand a lot more about how POL works and how to write scripts before trying anything like what you're doing.
www.polserver.com wrote:Development Release (096)

POL 096 is our development release, you should avoid downloading it, because we offer no support for it. It is intended for advanced users and beta testers only
Even those who make POL say that you shouldnt try POL096 unless you are advanced at using it.

Like I said, look at that entire changelog from line 1 to line 1208. You need to figure out exactly how everything listed in that changelog for 096 affects your scripts. And you need to make changes based on what your scripts say.
