Scripter/Developer Wanted ($)

Post by Daschund »

I'm interested in interviewing for a part-time scripter/developer for my shard and perhaps beyond. This is an offer to submit applications for a position as a part-time subcontractor. A selected applicant will be compensated as an independent contractor, and must be a U.S. citizen able to submit an IRS form W-9.

An ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience with eScript on POL versions 095+, including solid skills in code-reuse and general knowledge of performance-related issues. Candidate will be able to work on projects as requested, within pre-defined parameters and exhibit strong attention to detail.

Because I am looking for someone with a certain level of general development knowledge, it is also a requirement that a candidate has some experience in languages other than eScript, including at least one script/interpreted language such as PHP, JavaScript, VBScript or Perl and at least one high-level, object oriented language such as Java, C#, Python or C++. At least general familiarity with multi-threaded application design patterns, RDBMS systems, working with source control, and integrating software using disparate, non-standards-based systems (such as POL's AUX interface) are a plus.

Applicant would be working on a well-established, 8-year-old Roleplay/Casual shard with a family-friendly atmosphere. In addition to a growing list of new features and bug fixes waiting for attention, applicant would eventually begin to be able to initiate projects on their own. Applicant would be working for and with the existing, sole developer/administrator (myself), and would take on more responsibilities as experience is gained.

I know that it is odd to see an offer such as this here. In truth, having a scripter on a shard is not my ultimate goal here. My ultimate goal is to hire a freelance software developer for various projects for our company in the near future. However, we're not ready to dive into hiring someone just yet, and this offers a unique opportunity for us to determine an individual's skill level overall as a coder, while giving some much-needed attention to our shard, which suffers a little more as our 'real work' load increases. It offers the selected applicant a chance to make some (even small) use of their eScript learned skills, earn some pocket change as a result, and possibly lead to a solid relationship for future work in our company, which creates custom software for web/intranet, desktop and client/server systems in small/medium sized businesses and organizations.

Individuals who are interested may submit queries, applications/resumes with cover letter, or any other correspondence to: scripter.applications@email.com

One could work from a dune on the beach, for all I care. :D :whip: As long as they are workin'!

That is to say; pay would be essentially by the job, not at all based on attendance or that sort of thing.

Dunno about that. He might fall asleep. If you pay by results and not time in the bar it might be okay.
