Filedumps... Core updated 04-11-2014

Post by Harley »

Hello again...
So guys, another dump and bugs with core. When I use my /boat/ (expand it, or give some commands), client (7.0.3.0 patch 33) hangs and sometimes POL crushes.
What we have:

The dmp file is senseless if you compiled by your self. The exact git revision is required and at least the pdb files generated during you build.
This weekend I could try to reproduce it.

it wouldnt help you.
I have so many changes there, so half of your scripts wouldnt work with my core - many functions have another parameters, names etc. And no docs for it :D

but it's pretty stable... 50 days uptime, sysload < 10%
just take some revision from svn and apply patches that you need.

I could not reproduce your crash, the easiest thing is if you zip your compilation folder, pol should be enough, and upload it somewhere.
And some general comments: we rewrite not for fun we do it to fix bugs, improve speed, memory usage. Pol has a very old codebase so many things have to be rewritten. On the shard I work for we always try to keep the core up to date to test and use the new features. No current problems found. But since every shard has its own script base which behaves completely different there can of cause still be bugs.
And nice to know how some people here define community and open source...

:) didn't knew that pol devs have shards too. But you know, pol is very very unstable now, it's just impossible to use it live atm... i do my best to report about new crashes everytime ;)

I think, POL must be entered into 'testing' phase as soon as possible. Without any big changes, only for bug and crash fixes... I hope you will make it soon. Because its just unusable, and impossible to trace those 'mega-commits' everyday and get server working stable for many peoples of our community :)

So... I have made core compilation and compared 2 cores (Distro and last revision https://github.com/polserver/polserver 2 hours ago).
What I have: With newer core - the same problem with boats link at screenshot.
With old core - boat works wonderful, but still the problem with '.locked'.

So, what suggestions from the developers?

Just to be clear for those who read afterwards: there are three bugs described in here.

1) Crash with his boat script (which was apparently fixed by using the newest core from github)
2) New boat packet for 7.0.0.0-7.0.9.0 (pre-HSA) had a typo and was generating the wrong packet size. The client didn't expect the wrong size and crashed. (Fixed on commit 4a99af3932)
3) His UOG packethook is crashing (which I don't know why yet).

As a remark for the future, it would be helpful to describe ALL the symptoms that you get and your steps before that crash. Otherwise, it's really hard for us to imagine what could be causing it. ;)
