Feature Request: Update POL Core to use the new book header packet.

Currently POL uses the old book header packet: Packet: 0x93 Sent By: Both Size: 99 Bytes Packet Build BYTE[1] 0x93 BYTE[4] Book Serial BYTE[1] Write Flag (see notes) BYTE[1] 0x1 (unknown) BYTE[2] Page Count BYTE[60] Title BYTE[30] Author Subcommand Build N/A Notes Write Flag 0: Not Writable 1: Writa...

Re: Bulletin Boards

Yep. The bulletin boards will be in both versions of the Distro. I remember using the old BB and how awful it was. I haven't tried this system yet but from what I have seen of ThisIsMe's other creations it's going to be a vast improvement over what we had.

Re: Attempting to make LAN server

One issue is that BrainAI appeared to be consuming a lot of script cycles which caused the server to run very slow. As I said before, I don't know if this is the BrainAI system or the way it was implemented in the server. If the server is bogged down running BrainAI that could prevent you from loggi...

Re: Attempting to make LAN server

I don't remember BrainAI being part of the Zulu Hotel scripts originally. We have seen problems with the BrainAI system with other servers. Whether it is with the actual system or the way it was implemented in those servers I cannot say. I would suggest contacting the person who made the ZHT2A scrip...

Re: Attempting to make LAN server

Did you follow my tutorial for getting POL up and running? https://forums.polserver.com/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=6225 If so then you should have created all the necessary files to navigate in game. I assume you are using POL version 99.1 or POL 100. Both versions are compatible with my tutorial What cli...

Re: Attempting to make LAN server

I can tell you that many of the Zulu Hotel scripts I have seen were written under POL 093. That version of Pol is about 18 years old and many changes were made to the POL Core, pol.exe, since that time. Any scripts from before POL 096 require a good amount of updating to make them compatible with th...

Re: How to prevent using commands/words?

Thank you Skinny. Both for the direction to the packet and for the report about performance. I have been curious about how bad, if any, the performance hit might be. :)

Re: How to prevent using commands/words?

Oh. I think I understand. You want a word filter to stop certain words from being used, for example you want to prevent players or staff from sending the words "damn" or "hell". If that is what you wish to do, you can use the speech packet hook to provide a filter. I don't know how that might affect...

Re: How to prevent using commands/words?

All commands must be prefixed with a period. Also, commands have a hierarchy so that players cannot use a command that is intended for staff. In the Distro in /pkg /commands you will find the folders that contain the commands sorted according to the command level that can use them.

Re: Help with spawn system

JaceAce posted a number of converted script sets. I would recommend posting your question in the same thread that contained his converted scripts because different versions of "complete worlds" might use different spawn methods.

Re: Setting up a POL server. A tutorial.

My memory of which client version shipped with uop files might be wrong. Also, the person who posted that version of the client might have extracted the mul files from the uop files before posting it to Source Forge. If anyone knows the version that contained uop files, let me know so I can correct ...

Re: Setting up a POL server. A tutorial.

Also, please report any other bugs or unexpected behaviour you may find. If you can, list anything you were doing when the issue occurred so I can try to replicate the problem. Be sure to include the Distro version you were using. If you followed the tutorial this will be the Classic Distro.

Re: Setting up a POL server. A tutorial.

The facets are undecorated,,no doors, decorations etc., when you first launch the server. This is intentional. Some developers prefer to place their own decorations rather than have the default decorations placed in the facets. However, there is a command that you can use to place the default decora...

A new Core build is up for 2019-04-26.

Yep. A new Core is available on the Downloads page. There are no outward features that players will see but there are very important networking improvements by Nando and Turley. Plus a change to attributes.em, the addition of a precision constant when retrieving an attribute value. See the excerpt f...

You might give the WoD for POL 099 a try. It was posted by a developer for WoD just before she went to work for OSI.

Thanks Turley. I didn't know that method was there. I guess it would be a good idea to snuggle up in my comfy chair with a cold beer at hand and spend a quiet evening reading through the docs :)

Re: How to: convert array into string?

I believe in the Distro there is a user function to implode an array, look in /scripts/include/. If I remember correctly you will find it in arrays.inc or string.inc

The Virtue System.

I have started adding a virtue system to the Modern Distro. You can read the doc for it in /pkg/systems/virtue/docs/The Virtue System.txt Currently, only a handful of scripts affect even fewer virtues. These are forensicEvaluation, healing, poison spell, recall, incognito spell, polymorph spell, res...

WinRaR security alert.

If anyone is using WinRaR, you need to update to the latest version. A vulnerability was found in the ACE compressed file format that allows any file being decompressed from an ACE archive to escape from the target directory and traverse backward up the directory tree, otherwise known as an "absolut...

Though I admit I have limited knowledge of programming languages, I am not aware of any language that allows this, no compiled language anyway.

Re: [const] Directory

Ah. Now I understand. You want to use a string constant as part of the include statement. This is interesting but I am not sure it is possible currently because of the way eCompile works.

Re: [const] Directory

If this is a feature request I do not understand. You can define a constant like that in your scripts. Maybe I am missing something.
