A long time ago I made manual patches that you can just unzip into your UO directory. The ones I made will patch you a bit further to 4.0.2a patch 2. www.cwo333.com/patch

We still have a Discord? I've tried to join a few times but got kicked really quickly. Figured it was probably just an experiment that was being closed.

Re: Count a specific item

POL has no direct function to list all of the items on the server and trying to do the set of functions to list everything would likely freeze your server for a while. The best thing you can do is write something that reads items.txt directly.

so the type of chop-shop solution I would do... SendOpenSpecialContainer(who, bag); If(bag.container.isA(POLCLASS_MOBILE)) UpdateMobile(bag.container, UPDATEMOBILE_RECREATE) else //Build and send a draw packet to put it back endif Have you also tried forcing it by making the item invisible and visib...

Re: SendOpenSpecialContainer bug?

From what I remember at least with bankboxes, when they were opened, the container's XYZ was changed to where the player is at. I'm wondering if the core is moving the container to you which makes it remove the container from its original location (and from view) but then putting it back but not sen...

Re: Speedhack

A long time ago I posted a scripted speedhack solution with packethooks in POL096. When used on a live shard, it caused a lot of lag since it was a lot of processing in critical scripts that were called every step for every user. Not sure how much impact on CPU it would have today since computers ar...

Also, if you're talking about remaining hidden as a staff member, look into the Character.concealed member. Concealed is only for staff and allows them to run around and use objects without being seen.

Re: Regarding Packet Hooks

The problem with this is that if you block the deny packet, the client will have a ghost item on it but the server still denied it so it's not moved. The server has to accept that the item can be moved otherwise it will not be.

Re: max account limitation per IP

There's no limitation in a configuration file but you can script it into your account creation process. You can set a last IP address to the account upon creation and login (on login in case their IP changes) and then do something like this on account creation: foreach account in ListAccounts() if (...

I've never skipped errors. Not even on my development and rewrite shards. Although, I never really compiled the whole shard much unless I updated a global include or upgraded POL which didn't happen too often.

Re: The starthere batch files

I think the bat should definitely stop on errors. It's just bad practice to not stop on all errors in a production shard and most of those who will download this want an up and running "production level" shard immediately.

Re: Packets

What are you trying to accomplish here? Typically the only thing that happens when the client sends a packet to the server is that the server responds in a certain way or does something based on that packet. Why not cut out the packet and just do what you wanted to do. The only thing I can think of ...

Re: Attach(character) question.

I've used it when debugging stuff or creating new stuff to replace existing. Like some item use scripts that I would start off as developer level commands and such. If it fits your scripting style and situation, it can be useful.

Re: Sleep() and another analogue

Detach() is used for an entirely different purpose but you probably do still want it here since you don't want to have the script attached while it's sleeping (if it is attached). Either TimeToBuffOff needs to be moved to a start_script() call or you need to move TimeToBuffOff out of the BuffOn func...

Re: How to remove Property from Array?

It's been YEARS since I scripted POL so there may be a new way but If you're removing one buff, you can do a foreach and erase the buff directly from the array. This ONLY works if you're removing one buff at a time because after erasing, it will throw the loop off sync with the array position: forea...

Re: exported function and "by ref"

ya all of the hooks are exported functions and mainly the only place I've ever used byref is the packet in the packethooks since it's required to be passed back to the core to be sent or received and your return value only states if it's being used or ignored by the core. I feel byref in other place...

Re: Character...tried to drop item..., but had not gotten an item.

Yes you can start_script from a packethook but I believe the packethook will complete before the script is allowed to run since packethooks always run critical.
