True Boredom

Post by MuadDib »

You know you are truly bored at work, when you set up remote desktop on your home pc so you can do stuff......

Hahaha. True, true. I was actually in the middle of installing Delphi 2006 through VNC when I read this.

One day I got so bored without realizing it (that's the truly scary type of boredom) I started checking the weather in Siberia. After digging around some Russian websites for about 20-30 minutes I realized I was checking the weather in Siberia and I should get back to work.

[edit]
I really like my job though because in between programming for them I program for myself and I can camp these forums really hard... Where do you work, Muad?

Insight Communications, in their HSI department (high-speed-internet). Tier 2 tech. Nice thing is, our tier II is like most companies tier 3 or 4, cuz we can do so much. Comes in handy having unrestricted access to the net and "more than usual" access to the UBRs in the field.

I thought you were still doing remodeling. Tier 2 probably doesn't get as much Crap as tier 1, eh? What's a UBR?

Many of my friends worked for Dell doing tech support. It was the #1 dell support center in the world. Even my mom and brother worked phone support. Now that I think of it, almost half the people I know worked for phone support. Needless to say, I have very good manners when talking to tech support. ;)

Nah, got off the road to stay at home.

UBR/CMTS, it's basically what provides, technically, your cable with it's connection. It's the systems the cable connects to for broadband. Look up an Arris C4.

Yeah, but our tier 1 don't do crap. They have them unplug and reconnect, that's pretty much it. We go into the OS, telnet into the router (the CMTS, not the customer's), and a few other areas. Love the work, and keeps me on my toes about crap going on (virus, etc).
