As you may have noticed, there has been some modifications to the forums recently.

For one, I've done some major updates to help improve our ranking with search engines. I've also made adjustments for Guests to reduce BW and assist in search engine spiders.

Another temp change is, searching based on keywords and such is disabled. This is due to a mad increase in machine load it was causing on the host due to the size of the search engine DB for the site. I will be upgrading our entire search system to use Google very soon to improve searching forums.polserver.com and docs.polserver.com both.

If you have any issues, please let me know and I will fix them asap (Yes, I am BACK and active somewhat again, bite me! hehe) :)

Update

For guests: No signature and avatar viewing, no post/reply, jumpbox, previous and next topic. This not only reduces bw, but more importantly (the reason it was done), it gives us more optimization for search engines. Yay!

Page titles rewrote to assist in search engine crawling also (and to make more sense!)

Update

Due to the issues with the search system in phpBB, our forum software, I was forced to come up with something different or we would have to alter our hosting package (lot more expensive).

Now, the solution is in place. You can search based on Author or using an alternative search block that allows searching of the forums or the pol documentation site via a new Google setup. This new engine will find things a lot better than before, and I am just waiting on the next webcrawl for things to be even smoother :)

Two things Maud, what is BW?

And I think your SQL server is or was experiencing some lag. I'll know once I post this. It seems that posts took a very long time to get posted. There wasn't too much lag on viewing but posting was very slow.

Oh well, I said two things but...

Is this Google search a mod from PHPBB? If so could you post the linkto it? I have always hated the way the PHPBB search system is written. You couldn't search for phrases etc. If it is a mod I will add it to my forums as well.

Yeah, I do not think we are the only ones having SQL issues right now (Shared server).

Far as the new search page, no. It's something I worked on last night from scratch

BW= Bandwidth

FYI after I made that post the SQL lag seemed to be much better.
