Been around Ultima since before I was born? What... do you think I'm 6 years old, or something? I've been running a shard since long before you ever did, and I'm actually still running a shard now, unlike you.
Professional servers are 'easy to get around', what? What does that even mean? When I say 'professional', I mean getting a real hosting facility to host it - not some no-name nobody with a useless computer burning energy in their basement, running off DSL. I mean a real, professional hosting company that actually has support, real bandwidth, and where you don't need to worry about your 'gracious host' rebooting the server to cause a time warp when they get pissed off because they died, or holding your 'free hosting' over your head when they suddenly decide that the castle you gave them for the free hosting isn't big enough... or, maybe they don't like how you run your shard... or...
I don't have a 'problem', and I'm trying to help protect other people from having a problem I've seen so many other shards go through; Get someone else to host their shard, and end up at best, with an unreliable and unreasonable host or, at worst, end up losing their shard completely to the 'gracious free host'.
And you should shop around some. If you have even a halfway decent DSL connection, dedicated hosting at excellent facilities can be had for about the same cost. No way at all I would ever recommend someone take you up on your offer. If they want to host the shard off a DSL in someone's basement, they should make it THEIR dsl, in THEIR basement. |
