Ok, I been managing and hosting Medieva for years, but I am done now, no time for managing. But I got a big server with a dedicated ADSL line able to support over 100 + players. a Tripple hard drive raided server that can be online and kicking in less then 3 days.

If you need a hosting for UO let me know (I ask in exchange a Castle in your world ;))

Cheers.

Kalyn

Can you say, "Can of Worms"?

I knew you could...

Bit of advice to anyone looking for hosting: Go with a professional host that has absolutely no personal interest in your shard. Never, NEVER, NEVER have your shard hosted by someone who plays on it, or has any interest at all in it beyond you being a paid hosting customer.

That is, unless you just don't care that your shard will be subject to the whims of the person doing the hosting.

Little Dude -
I been around Ultima prob before you were born (dont start flamming). I am offering services from my previous Server which I do not have time to either play nor work on.

Professional servers are easy to get around although may be expensive and restricting. Which is why I had aquired my own server. But now is sitting in my basement burning electricity for no reason.

I don't know what your problem is. but do me a favor and shoot it some other way around.

Been around Ultima since before I was born? What... do you think I'm 6 years old, or something? I've been running a shard since long before you ever did, and I'm actually still running a shard now, unlike you.

Professional servers are 'easy to get around', what? What does that even mean? When I say 'professional', I mean getting a real hosting facility to host it - not some no-name nobody with a useless computer burning energy in their basement, running off DSL. I mean a real, professional hosting company that actually has support, real bandwidth, and where you don't need to worry about your 'gracious host' rebooting the server to cause a time warp when they get pissed off because they died, or holding your 'free hosting' over your head when they suddenly decide that the castle you gave them for the free hosting isn't big enough... or, maybe they don't like how you run your shard... or...

I don't have a 'problem', and I'm trying to help protect other people from having a problem I've seen so many other shards go through; Get someone else to host their shard, and end up at best, with an unreliable and unreasonable host or, at worst, end up losing their shard completely to the 'gracious free host'.

And you should shop around some. If you have even a halfway decent DSL connection, dedicated hosting at excellent facilities can be had for about the same cost. No way at all I would ever recommend someone take you up on your offer. If they want to host the shard off a DSL in someone's basement, they should make it THEIR dsl, in THEIR basement.

Nothing like old friends talking to each other here now is there?

The statement about age should be held to ones self since no one really knows how old the others are unless they know them outside the virtual world. I have hosted a shard for over 6 years now and there always new people coming in hosting shards. If someone wants to host a shard it does not take that much to do until the shard grows to 50+ players online.

Normally I would not comment on something like this but I personally feel that both of you stepped out of line here and it should stop. How are the new people to POL going to react to this when they see that people using it can not even get along amongst themselves?
