Now this may be a known problem, but I'm experimenting with
boat travel for the first time, as we never used it on our shard before.

I had problems with boat travel (like parts of the boat moving
out of place from time to time) so I activated the
EnableFlowControlPackets option in uoclient.cfg, as it had been
stated that this seems to help with boat movement.

The problem is, when I activate this feature it seems to be impossible
to log into the shard with a 4.x client. The client kind of freezes before
the character selection. Is that any kind of known problem, does anyone
else have it? And if yes, is there any other way to improve boat
movement? The way it is right now, it looks rather ugly...

Thanks,
Xandros

Thanks, that last line of comment was somehow missing in my
uoclient.cfg. Probably was added later on.

So, no way to get better looking boat travel on newer clients?
How does it work on OSI shards now.. are the boat parts also
moving out of place there?

I have no idea. Don't have this problem because on my shard we're using 2.0.3 clients, no aos, se, ml. sorry can't help ya here.

What I have found seems to help is to have the boat moving as quickly as possible. Our boats used to do this on 'slow' and regular speeds, but not on the fast speed. I increased the movement speeds somewhat, and now it only does it on the slow speed.

There may also be a network latency issue involved; When logged on to my local LAN's test server, I can't say I've ever noticed the boat parts lagging behind, even as slow speeds.
