Where should I start looking, when the shard connections tells me there are 270 connecion, but only 10-20 players online.
This seems to happen once in a while, so far I have looked in logoff for anything odd.
The shard is running fine for several days, and all of a sudden, it seem to "forget" to release the connection, resulting in a large amount of connection, witch lead to, that the players are stuck at verify account.
Here is a chop of the pol.log from just before the problem occured.

I thoguh I was the only one.
I can add that trying to shutdown the shard (CTRL+C) results in continuesly message about "waiting for 337 threads to exit".
This would continue until I closed down the shard to hard way.

Usually a sign of spamming to connect and POL isn't correctly shutting down the no-longer-valid/used connections.
Also, is a sign of someone try to ping/flood the server with ghost connections in order to mess with you.
Looking into other ways to fix this (we won't add firewall type protection against this stuff to the core, that is too much of an overkill) is on our plate, but down the road.

Now is all ok and this problem is not more a problem...... i think some kinda of internet attacks.... but i'm not sure.
If it appears again i will post all pol.log so DEV could be a diagnostic

One thing narrowed down in another post was a fault in the logoff or logofftest scripts. What it was, We do not know. We have yet to recieve a "bad" one that got "fixed". In other words, something was wrong in one of those two scripts, and the person having the ghosted clients rewrote their logoff sets, and it fixed those. If someone else can do this, and fix it, send us both the bad ones, and the good ones, so we can try to find out what is causing this.

The problem occured due to an exception in logoff.ecl, and the exception happened because I was setting a large global array-prop.
So basicly the problem occured because SetGlobalProp coursed an exception, and SetGlobalProp was called from a logoff script. But I bet that any exception in any logoff script will course this problem.

it seems like even though ppl are actually logging out that the server is ghosting the connection. basically they are logged out and then back it and it's still seeing a ghost of their connection logged in from the first time and any other times they have logged in.
i'm not sure how to go about scripting a fix or what would tell you exactly what accounts that it's seeing logged in.

Check all your logoff scripts for possibly problem.
Search the log for any exception, that how I solved my problem.
If the does not work, print a debug message, like step 1, step 2, step 3 etc. in the console/logfile to find out what script and where in the logoff script it exist due to the exception.
