Just as a notice to all users and future users of our forums:
Due to the amount of Spam Bots and False Registrations, I have implemented a safety feature for the forums. This feature is pretty simple and to the point. Signatures and Websites cannot be set on profiles at time of registration and until the user has made at least 10 posts. If this causes to many "upset" feakazoids about the signature restriction for posts, I can reduce it to 1 post, but it needs to remain on registration restrictions to help cut down on the amount of spam I clean off the database 3 or so times a day.

got my support for 10 posts...
Now did you put something in the actual registration to reject it or do you just have it hide everything until they hit 10 posts?

*thumbs up*
No problem from me there. I wish I could block those bots too. Had to go back to the "sub-silver" theme just to get the visual registration thing to work.

It works fine on my board with a different template... just I needed to go to subsilver on my own profile to enable it then go back to my template after... I still get bot regs with the visual reg though.

Even if I did actually use a sig, I'd say that there's no reason at all the 10 post requirement should be a real problem. If someone's not going to be here long enough or post that much, a sig really isn't a big deal for them.

Actually, the website and sig are not possible to be set during the registration. If they send it anyway (which bots do), it auto bans their host address, denies the registrations, and so on and so on. Then the other part of allowing it after 10 posts, works by checking post count before giving them the fields, and bans if they try without having the fields available.

CWO I use the Chronicles template and ut has no place for the visual confirmation in the registration page. And yes I still get a few bot regs too but it's a lot lower than before. There is a mod to the visual confirmation that shows pics of alpha-numerics but they are skewed and distorted. This apparently is not OCRable by the bots. I haven't yet tried to install it.

Check out phpbb.com's search results for "spam". one of the first few is a good mod to stop em.
